Ford Engineers an Even Safer Explorer

These days, automakers are implementing a myriad of new technologies to keep drivers comfortable and entertained while driving. But, Ford has taken their MyFord and SYNC technology beyond infotainment to help keep drivers focused on the road. Targeting some of their most vulnerable drivers (teens), Ford will introduce upgrades to their MyKey system that include a speed governance system, and even a low fuel warning, among other things.

The previous version of the MyKey software in the Ford Explorer enabled parents to set a top speed of 80 mph for their teens. The newest version will allow them to set top speeds of 65, 70 or 75 mph and a speed alert at 45, 55 or 65 mph.  It will also feature something called "Do Not Disturb," which automatically forwards all incoming phone calls to voicemail and saves texts to be read later.

Also at parents' disposal will be the "No Belts, No Tunes" feature, which mutes the radio until all front seat passengers put on their safety belts. Parents can also block satellite radio stations with adult programming, and can even set a volume limit of up to 44 percent of the maximum volume output. And those are just the features to help keep teens safer.

When the all-new Ford Explorer arrives at Gillie Hyde Auto Group, shoppers will still find it equipped with collision warning, cross-traffic alert, rear-view camera, stability control and curve control. Optional lane-departure warning will alert drivers with an audible signal as well as vibration in the steering wheel if the vehicle begins to drift. And, in case of the worst, Ford has developed the rear-seat inflatable safety belts.

Not only is the Ford Explorer one of the safest crossovers on the market, it also boasts room for seven passengers, a powerful V6 engine and class leading fuel economy (17 mpg city/25 mpg highway).  The optional four-cylinder "EcoBoost" engine bumps fuel economy to the best-in-class EPA estimate of 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system are standard, but drivers can choose a four-wheel drive system with Ford's Terrain Management System to electronically optimize traction in different driving conditions.

Ford has engineered the 2013 Explorer with class-leading safety features and technology, but they do plan to implement their latest MyFord updates across the lineup in the next couple of years. As you can see, though, the current-gen Ford Explorer is a good place to start. Stop into Gillie Hyde Auto Group at 610 Happy Valley Rd, Glasgow, KY 42141 to learn more about this or any other new Ford  model. In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned for more Ford news!
