Chrysler Plans to Streamline New Model Lineup

If you've been a longstanding fan of the Dodge Caravan, you might be disappointed to hear that Chrysler plans to replace the popular minivan with a crossover starting next year. If you're a minivan purest, don't worry, the automaker will continue to make the Chrysler Town & Country indefinitely.

The word is, Chrysler's next full-size minivan will arrive in 2014, and at that time, the company will also release the new crossover meant to replace the Dodge Caravan. The reason behind cutting duplicate vehicles in the lineup, according to Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, is, "[Dealers] cannot have the same type of vehicle in the showroom because the consumer is not stupid."1

Crossovers have proven, over the last few years, to be better sellers than minivans. And Chrysler hopes that the sportier crossover will still appeal to former van buyers because it will offer the space and practicality that minivan drivers have grown accustomed to.

Chrysler's effort to cut back on duplicate models doesn't end there, either. The company launched this effort in 2008, calling it "Project Genesis." In 2013, you can say goodbye to the Chrysler 200 Sedan and the Dodge Avenger, as dealers will be making room for a replacement for those models, as well.

The Gillie Hyde Auto Group, located at 610 Happy Valley Road Glasgow, KY, is excited to see the new Chrysler and new Dodge models arrive in our showroom in the next couple of years. Stay tuned with our blog to stay up-to-date on the latest news and model updates from Chrysler.
