Chrysler Introduces New Eight-Speed Transmission for Used in Full Size Sedans

At the Gillie Hyde Auto Group, we know that Chrysler is king when it comes to innovation amongst the American automakers. The most recent example of this can easily be found in the new eight-speed automatic transmission that is being fitted into full size sedans, such as the 2012 Chrysler 300C and 2012 Dodge Charger. Both of these models are powered by the Chrysler Pentastar V6 engine, so you can rest assured that these two models will continue to perform like they should.
The new 2012 Chrysler 300 replaces its conventional five-speed automatic transmission with the new transmission in hopes of raising its fuel economy. Though, we should also mention that much of the time, innovation comes with a price. As such, the 2012 Chrysler 300 is set to cost about a grand more than the previous model, bringing the starting MSRP to $28,995, including destination fees.
Of course, we should note the other reasons as to why the added investment is worth it. Specifically, the new eight-speed automatic transmission doesn't just increase the fuel economy of the 300. It increases it by 15 percent! This brings the estimated fuel economy of the 300 to an impressive 19 mpg city/31 mpg highway. Another reason why the 2012 Chrysler 300 is worth the investment: The American automaker plans to add all-wheel drive as an option to drivers for enhanced safety in the toughest weather.
Currently, Chrysler is licensing the new eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF Friedrichshafen AG, which also produces eight-speeds for a suite of German and English luxury brands. It goes without saying that this is not a cheap investment for the American automaker, so the slight increase in price is a bit justified, especially when you consider how much money you'll save in the long run on gas.
