Chrysler Reveals the 200 Super S in Detroit

With the arrival of the 2012 Chrysler 200, the automaker lives up to their hometown moniker. That's right, as the automaker says, this sedan embodies "the power of old Detroit...the efficiency of new Detroit."1. As such, Gillie Hyde Auto Group thinks it would be difficult for Chrysler to make the Chrysler 200 even better than it already. Not that that particular fact matters, since Chrysler asked their parts division, Mopar, to create something really spectacular for the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

Enter the Chrysler Super S by Mopar. Arriving in style in Detroit, "The Super S is Mopar's interpretation of the Chrysler 200," says Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar. "The extensive list of high-quality Mopar parts enhances the performance and appearance of our Chrysler 200."1 And, if you like the enhancements the company made to the car, the parts showcased in Detroit will be available to Chrysler owners and drivers later this year.

Let's break down this down a bit. To start, Mopar added a large chin spoler, satin chrome fog light trim, and mesh in the upper and lower grilles. Moving from the front to the back, Mopar added new side sills, satin chrome belt bolding, black chrome "200" badges, and gray or black 18-inch alloy wheels unique to the S trim. Last, the Chrysler 200 Super S boasts a new trunk lid spoiler, satin chrome light bar and a matte black lower diffuser with attached exhaust openings.

The Chrysler 200 already features a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that pumps out 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. How did Mopar improve the sedan's performance? Well, they started with a coil-over suspension, which lowers the vehicle's center of gravity. And then they added a cold-air intake and a cat-back exhaust to top it all off.

The word is that Chrysler will offer this performance package for the Chrysler 200S later this year, among many other Mopar performance-inspired packages for the Chrysler lineup.
